BB cream: Passing fad or here to stay?
BB cream (or beauty balm) has been around longer than you think. First this light and lightly tinted cream was use for post-procedure treatment to protect, prime, treat and hydrate the skin with moisturizing ingredients, SPF, etc.. Then it took on cult status in Asia for women who wanted that super-flawless/protected-from-the-sun look.
At first I thought that this was just a new ploy to get us make-up lovers scrambling to the nearest Sephora with tissues at the ready (if you’ve been to Sephora you know exactly what I mean). Then I saw all of the rave reviews and even my favorite YouTube beauty gurus were using it. So I found (at Sephora) a “Favorites Collection” and thought this would be a good place to start.
The collection consists of BB creams from Boscia, Dr. Jart, Smashbox, Stila and Too Faced. I started with the Boscia BB Cream SPF 27 and was pleasantly surprised! First of all, not much is needed. I think I used the size of a pea and then I spread a thin layer over my face. The smell is minimal (which would be a deal-breaker if it had a strong scent). I’ve seen beauty vloggers use it as a primer to their actual foundation so that’s exactly what I did with my usual Bare Minerals Ready foundation pressed powder. It did exactly what it described: evened out my skin tone, it seemed to soften fine lines and gave the appearance of smaller pores (yay!).
In conclusion, I feel I might be purchasing the Boscia BB Cream on the regular, but let’s see how the other brands measure up…
